The choice of evaporative cooler outlet will depend on how the cooler is to be installed on site. There are basically 3 different configurations of which 1 will need to be chosen for each evaporative cooler. The evaporative cooler outlet is built into the cooler in the factory and cannot be chosen or changed after manufacture, so it is important to choose the right outlet for the cooler in the planning process. The Met Mann range has airflow ranges from 5500m3/hr right up to 63000m3/hr and for each size there is an option of discharging the cooled air through the top of the cooler, the base or through a side.
Side evaporative cooler outletAn evaporative cooler outlet on the side means that it can either be mounted on a ground level slab or an elevated wall mounted platform, but in either case the connected ducting channels the cooled air directly into the building where it can be discharged via diffusers. It is worth remembering that side outlet coolers only draw air in through 3 sides rather than 4 sides, that is the case for base and top outlet coolers, and therefore the airspeed is higher through the cooling panels. For this reason side outlet evaporative coolers are slightly less efficient than the top and base outlet types.
Base evaporative coolers outletAn evaporative cooler outlet in the base means that it is suited to roof top installation where the connected duct is routed directly down and through the roof into the building. Alternatively, if ground level space is limited and they cannot go on the roof they can be fitted to a wall mounted platform and where air from the cooler can be ducted via a 90° bend and into the building. The larger sizes of evaporative cooler are heavy, for example the AD-70 when primed with water is 850 kg and for this reason we don’t recommend roof mounting or platform mounting of the AD-55 or AD-70.
Top evaporative coolers outletAn evaporative cooler outlet through the top is available for all sizes and this type of evaporative cooler is particularly suited to the bigger models, which are too heavy for roof and wall platform mounting. Evaporative coolers with top outlet are invariably installed on a ground slab and because no special access arrangements are needed, they are the easiest to install and maintain. |
